Low participation in needed clinical trials among minorities and rural populations is causing concern among some medical professionals and The Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education, Georgia Society for Clinical Oncology, and Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center are holding a statewide summit to bring some of those medical professionals together in an effort to solve that problem.

Some of the brightest medical minds from across the Peach State met at Mercer to discuss ways to get more people to participate in these trials by trying to identify why people aren't participating, discussing ways to better educate the general public on clinical trials, and strategies to bring more diversity into the fold, such as reaching out to minority and rural communities to dispel myths commonly associated with these trials.

Other topics include expanding rural access to clinical trials and encouraging healthcare providers to talk to patients about trials that could be beneficial to their health.
