Governor Deal Proclaims June Cancer Survivors' Month and June 7th Cancer Survivors' Day

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has proclaimed June as Cancer Survivors' Month and June 7th as Cancer Survivors' Day.

The proclamation states that a "cancer survivor" is defined as anyone living with a history of cancer - from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of one's life.  It also notes that in 2015, an estimated 1.6 million and 48,070 cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States and Georgia, respectively.  These astonishing numbers are a testament to the need for increased access to quality cancer care, screening, and prevention in communities throughout our state.  Organizations in the state, such as the Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education (CORE), are dedicated to increasing collaboration to offer higher quality, better organized, and more cost-effective cancer care in Georgia.  The great State of Georgia has over 356,000 active, productive cancer survivors.  These individuals serve as an inspiration to their fellow citizens and a reminder of the need to continue to bring awareness to this epidemic.
