3/29/2012

Georgia CORE, the Center for Oncology Research and Education announced the appointments of Dr. James Burke with Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah and Dr. Jayanthi Srinavisiah of Georgia Cancer Specialists and DeKalb Medical to its Board of Directors. Both doctors have been appointed for three-year terms. Dr. Burke is with Memorial’s Division of Gynecologic Oncology and serves as the Co-Principal Investigator for the Georgia CORE Gynecologic Oncology Group Consortium. “Dr. Burke is active in making new gynecologic cancer treatments available,” said Nancy M. Paris, president and CEO of Georgia CORE. “We are honored to have him as a member of the Board of Directors.” Dr. Srinivasiah is also an active participant in Georgia CORE’s research network. “She is consistently opening clinical trials that offer new and effective cancer treatments to her patients,” said Paris. “Recently Dr. Srinivasiah received a leadership award from the National Cancer Institute for her commitment to enrolling patients in clinical trials.” Georgia CORE is looking forward to a pivotal year in its life cycle as the nonprofit just reached an important milestone in the launch of GeorgiaCancerInfo.org. The first and only comprehensive source of information on Georgia-based cancer care, the site provides current information on cancer treatments, doctors, centers and resources throughout the state. Georgia CORE was established in 2003 as a catalyst to increase availability of and access to clinical trials – qualities known to be innovative hallmarks of quality cancer care. The Board of Directors, composed of community oncologists, scientists, nurses and educators, represents leading private practices, cancer centers, academic institutions and all programs in Georgia funded by the National Cancer Institute. Georgia CORE is a private non-profit funded by the Georgia Cancer Coalition – an initiative of the Georgia Research Alliance; the Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology; and the Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation.
